ignorance is only an excuse

He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.”  Luke 24:44

In order to understand what Jesus is talking about that is to be fulfilled, we have to understand what what was written in the old testament, the he must suffer, and die and be resurrected.  Jesus told his disciples these things while he was with them and it has been documented and verified.  This is why I look to the first reading as an understanding of what he is talking about.  "Now I know, brothers and sisters,
that you acted out of ignorance, just as your leaders did;
but God has thus brought to fulfillment what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets,
that his Christ would suffer.  Acts 3: 17-18. Ignorance by definition means lack of knowledge or information.  So even though Jesus was standing before them teaching them and explaining everything to them they chose to ignore him.  The world to this day has chosen ignorance over salvation, they have chosen self-love over God’s love. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 733 and 734, "God is Love" and love is his first gift, containing all others.  "God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."  Because we are dead or at least wounded through sin, the first effect of the gift of love is the forgiveness of our sins.  The communion of the Holy Spirit in the Church restores to the baptized the divine likeness lost through sin.  My prayer for you today is to open your heart to God's Love and accept everything that you know to be true, God's plan as it is written in the old testament is revealed in the new testament.   God is waiting for you to open your eyes and your heart to believe what you know to be true.
