Be Jesus to everyone

John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”   John 1:26-27

Today's Gospel is a culmination of John's life.  From the beginning of his life in the Canticle of Zechariah, John has been taught what his mission is, "And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God by which the daybreak from on high will visit us to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” Luke 1:76‭-‬79. Imagine growing up as John the Baptist and his parents constant reminder, 'remember you are to go before the Lord and prepare His way.  I can only imagine the preparation they did for John as a child to make him ready to live in the desert and eat only milk and honey.  In essence we are called to this same message: bring Jesus to every person you meet today.

Jesus, help me to learn from St. John the Baptist how to bring others to you.
