This week's daily Gospel's come from the Gospel of Luke and are rich in the history of Christmas. In these daily readings we are given the canticle of Zechariah and the canticle of Mary, which form the morning and evening prayer for the Liturgy of the Hours. Place yourself in this story and travel with Mary, from the point of her Annunciation, to the vision to Joseph, the annunciation to Zechariah, the first pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph to her cousin, finally to the birth of John the Baptist. Imagine the conversation that took place between Mary and Joseph regarding the message each of them received from the Arch Angel Gabriel, how they are to continue their journey together. They had plenty of time to talk about this unbelievable happenings as they traveled to Mary’s cousin Elizabeth. Then to talk with Elizabeth and Zechariah about their message from the Arch Angel Gabriel. Even though Zechariah could not speak he was still able to communicate and had many things to tell about how this came about. Just sit with this in your mind and enjoy the love Christ was giving this group of relatives. These images will prepare your way for the coming of Jesus Christ as you let this rest on your heart.
Lord Jesus, you are gracious and forgiving towards us. Renew in me the gift of faith that I may believe your promises and obey your word.
