As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. John 13:34
In today's Gospel Jesus states that he is giving us a new commandment when actually he is defining the second commandment and how we are to carry it out. "As I have loved you", when Jesus says this how do you relate that to your life? God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son not to condemn the world but to save it. Jesus says to love your neighbor as yourself. Anything you would do for yourself, you should go above and beyond and do for your neighbor. Every relationship should be built on love rather than judgment. Thinking the good for others renews our faith in God's mercy and in turn he will show his mercy upon us. When I think of love from Jesus the only thing I can think of is the cross he bore for me to give us again the hope for eternal life. A man brutally beaten and tortured for telling the truth. Submitting yourself to the will of God is saying that I love you more than I love myself. Jesus what ever you want me to do, even though I have no idea why I am doing it, consider it done with your help. Nothing is impossible with God on your side.
“Let us not fancy that if we cry a great deal we have done all that is needed—rather we must work hard and practice the virtues: that is the essential—leaving tears to fall when God sends them, without trying to force ourselves to shed them. Then, if we do not take too much notice of them, they will leave the parched soil of our souls well watered, making it fertile in good fruit; for this is the water which falls from Heaven. … I think it is best for us to place ourselves in the presence of God, contemplate His mercy and grandeur and our own vileness and leave Him to give us what He will, whether water or drought, for He knows best what is good for us; thus we enjoy peace and the devil will have less chance to deceive us.” —St. Teresa of Avila
My prayer for you this day: "Lord Jesus, your love knows no bounds and surpasses everything I could desire and long for. Fill me with the fire of your love and with the joy of your Holy Spirit that I may freely serve my neighbor with loving-kindness, tenderhearted mercy, and generous care for their well-being."
